Frances Farren

Frances Powell Farren, loving wife and mother, passed away in her sleep on July 3rd, 2021, one week shy of her 80th birthday. Fran was born July 10th, 1941 in Fort Spring, West Virginia to Elmer and Irma (Mitchell) Powell, and spent most of her childhood in Lewisburg, WV. She received her degree in Education from Concord College in Athens, WV and proceeded to teach her beloved students in a number of schools in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and South Carolina. She retired in 2003 after 30 years of teaching, with breaks to raise her children and for family relocations. She married her college sweetheart and the love of her life, Jim Farren, on August 15th, 1964. Together they raised two sons, Keith and Mark. Always the music lover, Fran sang in church choirs and in high school and college choruses. She thoroughly enjoyed playing the piano, and played the bells in her high school and college marching bands. Fran led the youth choir and taught Sunday School at Orange First Baptist Church in Orange, Va., and was a member of the Junior Women's Club in Orange. She also was involved in her sons' 4-H group and Cub Scout troop, and sat thru a seemingly endless number of Little League football, basketball, and baseball games her sons played in. She loved visiting the beach, enjoyed collecting anything related to turtles, and always looked forward to visiting with her family and the grand-dogs. Fran was preceded in death by her father Elmer, her mother Irma, her sister Phyllis Cremeans, and her brother Pat Cremeans. Fran is survived by her husband Jim, her son Keith and his wife Christy, her son Mark and his wife Brenda, and her grandchildren Kayleigh Bray and Cody Seagraves. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Fran's 80th birthday, Saturday, July 10th, at 10:00 AM, with a funeral service at 11:00 AM, at Traveler's Rest United Methodist Church, 19 South Main Street, Traveler's Rest, SC 29690.
