James B. Adkins

James Adkins, 93, passed away November 4, 2021. James Boise Adkins was born June 22, 1928 to Harvey and Lilla Adkins in Alliance, Florida. James came from a large family, having 5 sisters and 5 brothers. The sisters were Lucille, Doris, Thelma, Dicie, and Betty. The brothers were Arthur, Orbie, Edward, Stoney, and Alvin, James is survived by Dicie, Stoney, and Alvin. James enlisted in the United States Army, and served in Germany. After returning home, James went to work for Western Union, where he retired after 30+ years. James then went to work for the Postal Service in Macon, GA until he retired again, James married Josephine Avera on September 29, 1954, and they were married for 67 years. They raised 4 girls: Brenda Olson (Britt) of Baconton, GA, Sandra Bailey (Jim) of Cleveland, SC, Nancy Smith (Tom) of Dallas, GA, and Reba Wolfe (Verle) of Pinnacle, NC. His 4 girls provided him with 9 grandchildren: James Williams (Shannon), Chad Williams (Jessica), Becky Shiver (Chase), Brandon Smith (Samantha), Dawn Godfrey (Ray), Shannon Cole (Alex), Justin Wolfe (Alexis), Brad Olson (Liz), and Scott Bailey (Mary Kathryn). Those 9 grandchildren provided him with 12 great-grandchildren: Cole Williams, Tyler Pennington-Wolfe, Cade Williams, James Godfrey V, Hunter Williams, Kage Shiver, Timothy Godfrey, Summer Smith, Brooks Cole, Sloane Smith, Josephine Williams, and Eden Cole. Also, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews survive James. James was a long-time member of the Church of Christ, where he led singing for many years, and also served as a deacon. James retired to Marianna, Florida. After his health declined, he moved in with his daughter Sandra in Cleveland, SC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. November 15, 2021, at The Howze Mortuary. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. November 15, 2021, in The Howze Mortuary Chapel. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. CST November 17, 2021 in Sims Cemetery, Marianna, FL.
