Ruby Vest Neves

Ruby Vest Neves, 100 years old, of Travelers Rest, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at her home. She was born on December 01, 1922, in the Little Texas Community near Travelers Rest, SC. She was the youngest of twelve children born of the late William Henry and Birdie Georgiana Campbell Vest and was the last surviving. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years William Harry Neves. She is survived by her children Susan Neves Mitchell (Robert), Doris Neves Campbell (Sandy) and Mike Neves (Kim). Seven Granddaughters Michelle Mitchell, Melissa Mitchell-Blitch (Robbie), Allison Campbell Olson, Jennifer Campbell-Raab (Brennan), Karla Neves-Hall (Braden), Krista Neves and Kelly Neves Boling (Justin). Five Great Grandchildren Christopher Ian Raab, Benjamin Joseph Raab, Wills Campbell Olson and Stormie Grace Neves Hall. She was predeceased by an infant Great Granddaughter Harmony Faith Hall. She was a homemaker for the majority of her life and a wonderful southern cook. She could make a mouthwatering blackberry cobbler, homemade biscuits, and a famous chocolate cream pie with meringue. She would always sacrifice her needs for the needs of others. She and Harry owned and operated Neves Grocery up until their retirement. They co-owned it when it was Neves and Thompson Grocery. In past years, she was very involved in Locust Hill Baptist Church, and upon her death was the oldest member. She served as a teacher, VBS worker, circle program chairwoman and delivered church service tapes to homebound members. She was always ready to help in any way. Very independent and very much in control and she loved her family and church. Thank you to all her special friends, family and church members who constantly sent cards, made visits and prayed for Mom. The family deeply appreciates your kindness! Thank you to her caregivers: Nancy Blackstone, Kim Neves, Julie Gentry, Susan Westmoreland, Crystal Hess, Macy Wooten, Dana Hyatt and Kelly Neves Boling for their tender care for mom. Thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Palmetto Region for the wonderful care given to our mom. The family will receive friends from 2 PM until 3 PM Saturday, May 20, 2023, at The Howze Mortuary in Travelers Rest, SC. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Saturday May 20, 2023, at The Howze Mortuary Chapel in Travelers Rest, SC with burial to follow at the Locust Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Locust Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 5555 Locust Hill Road, Travelers Rest SC 29690.
