Brentwood Ritz Ostrander

Brentwood (Brent) Ritz Ostrander, age 95, of Taylors, South Carolina (formerly of Crossville, Tennessee) died of complications from cancer on March 31, 2024. He was born on May 30, 1928, in Rochester, Michigan. He was predeceased by his wife Leta Mae Ostrander, parents Edwin and Hazel Ostrander, brothers Robert and Edwin Ostrander, Jr., and son-in-law Russ Ellis. Brent is survived by his Children: Cheri Ellis Hartman, Randy (Donna) Ostrander, Mark (Evie) Ostrander, Cindy (Tom) Allen, Barry (Debbie) Ostrander, Heidi (Ed) O’Daniel and Daughter-in-law Marsha Ostrander; 37 Grandchildren; 51 Great-Grandchildren; 8 Great-Great-Grandchildren; Brother-in-law Larry (Barbara) Warner and numerous nieces and nephews. Brent’s greatest joy in life was his wife and six children and his children rejoiced that he is now reunited with their mother in the presence of the Lord. Brent’s children lovingly remember his love of jokes and his telling them to everyone he met. When teased about all his jokes, he loved to quote Proverbs 17:22, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” He told his jokes and quoted that scripture to the end of his life. Brent was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Taylors, SC where he enjoyed singing hymns and hearing sermons about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Brent served our country during WWII as a Seaman Second Class in the United States Navy and was a career law-enforcement officer for over 20 years serving on several police and sheriff’s departments in Michigan and Florida. During his long career he earned many awards for his outstanding police work. Brent was also an accomplished carpenter and cabinet maker and in his last years made thousands of wooden crosses in various sizes to give as gifts to friends, family, and many strangers as a witness to his love for Jesus. A service celebrating Brent’s life will be held on April 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Chapel Greer, 3315 Brushy Creek Rd., Greer, SC. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Greer. The family would like to thank Interim Healthcare Hospice for their compassionate, committed care, which provided the family with invaluable support during the last weeks of Brent’s life.
