Carolyn Gail Lott King

Carolyn Lott King, age 74, passed away Friday afternoon, October 4, 2024, at her home. She was born on February 2, 1950, in Metter, GA. to the late Johnnie James Lott and the late Gladys Turner Lott. She was a 1968 High School graduate of Metter High School, and went on to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education from Georgia Southern University. Carolyn was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, John Winthrop King who is a U.S.A.F. veteran, two sons, James Ashley King who served in the U.S.M.C., Robert Michael (Megan) King of Savannah, GA., daughter, Amanda Ellen King of St. Joseph, MI., step-children, U.S. Army veteran John E. King, David W. King, Patricia J. Hoffheiser, Joyce K. Roper, U.S.A.F. veteran Susan L. Lococo, Sister-in-Law, Juanita Lott, niece Penny Lott, nephew Joey Lott, and other nieces and nephews. She was known for her kind heart and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Along with her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her three brothers, James (Marie), Bobby, and Jerry (Shirley) Lott. Carolyn retired from teaching after 39 ½ years of dedicated service. She was admired for her passion to teach the joy of learning and her heart for children. She was a faithful member of Marietta First Baptist Church, providing insightful words of wisdom in her Pillars of Faith Sunday School class. Carolyn was a valiant warrior in Christ during her battle with breast cancer, and never gave up, even to the end, fighting for her family, her children, and her Lord; Matthew 5:16 is a true representation of her life. Those who knew Carolyn will remember her as a warm, compassionate, care giving woman who always put the needs of others before her own. She was a light unto others, always spreading joy and inspiring everyone who interacted with her. She was a lighthouse, a strong beacon, illuminating through the darkness a tapestry of brilliant rainbow colors, as brilliant as her kindergarten classroom and her brightly coordinating outfits, complete with an infectious smile that uplifted anyone who came across her path. Funeral service will be held Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of The Howze Mortuary in Travelers Rest.
