Charles "Cooter" Capps

CHARLES CAPPS TRAVELERS REST, SC Charles “Cooter” Capps, 76, of 1410 Geer Highway, Travelers Rest, loving husband of Joyce Crain Capps went home to be with the Lord on October 26th after an extended period of illness. Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Belton Harrison Capps, Sr. and Laura Melton Capps. He was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church and a former member of Renfrew Baptist Church for over 35 years. Charles served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He worked at J.P. Stevens Slater Plant for twenty five years, T & S Brass for ten years and retired from Roll Technology in Greenville. Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 57 years is his son, Michael H. Capps and wife Angie of Taylors; a daughter Debra Capps Shepherd and husband Walter of Travelers Rest; two grandchildren, Summer Capps Moore and husband Richard of Anderson and Benjamin Jay (BJ) Capps of Travelers Rest; two adopted grandchildren Amy Sparks Dotson and husband Charley, PJ Sparks and wife Kim and one great grandchild. One sister, Sylvia Capps Hurst of Atlanta, Georgia and one step brother Marion “Butch” Henderson. Also, a special loved family Dale and April Styles and Miss Alley Grace Styles who adopted Charles as “Papa Capps”. And Harley and Haley his furry companions who will miss him very much. Charles was predeceased by three brothers, William Elton Capps, Belton H. (Bud) Capps, Jr. and Grover H. Capps and two sisters, Rosa Lee Capps and Frances Capps Hawkins. We would like to extend our thanks to the Veterans Association, Interim Hospice Healthcare and the Cancer Center of the Carolinas. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 until 8:00 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at The Howze Mortuary Chapel.
