Gerry P. Ozzimo

Gerald “Gerry” Peter Ozzimo, 78, husband of Lenore Magin Ozzimo, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Rolling Green Village in Greer. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Orlando A. Ozzimo and Rose Mastromatteo Ozzimo. As a young man, Gerry worked with his father in the family pizza business, Ozzie’s Pizza, in Rochester, NY and soon ventured out to Arizona where he graduated from Arizona State University and began his professional business career with the original Taco Bell in Arizona. Gerry took a position with General Electric Corporation in Phoenix, AZ, later transferring to Worthington, OH, Wilmington, NC, Liverpool, NY and eventually to General Electric Turbine Division in Greenville where he had a successful career in Materials Management. With the desire to start his own business, Gerry and Lenore founded Ozzie’s Pizza in Greenville which they operated for over 8 years. While operating the pizza business, Gerry took a position with Digital Equipment Corporation as Production Control Manger at their Printed Wire Board Manufacturing Facility. He advanced to the Global PWB Sourcing/Procurement Manager and eventually as the Greenville Facility Purchasing Manager. The decision to semi-retire allowed Gerry to pursue a desire to work independently and do materials management consulting work which he truly loved. Gerry had a love for bowling, having bowled on The Ohio State University bowling team and later took up golf which he enjoyed well into his retirement years. An avid reader, doing fitness workouts, a keen eye in the investment world and a love for his family allowed Gerry to comfortably enjoy his retirement years. Both Gerry and Lenore enjoyed traveling together, having been to China, Italy and all across the United States. A true man of his faith, Gerry was a founding member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Taylors, SC and recently a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Simpsonville, SC and Saint Rafka Maronite Catholic Church in Greer, SC. Surviving along with his wife of 54 years are his daughters: Chrissa M. Fore of Greenville and Michele L. Fleming (Daniel) of Jones Creek, GA; sisters: Kathleen Ozzimo and Tana Arneson (Dave) both of Webster, NY; 4 grandchildren: Carris Fore, Landon Fore, Isabella Fleming and Eva Fleming; sister-in-law: Valerie Magin of Simpsonville, former brother-in-law: Joseph Drews and nieces: Renee Del Vecchio (Tony) of Rochester, NY and Laura Merk of Murfreesboro, TN. Receiving of friends will be on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 11 until 11:50 a.m. at Saint Rafka Maronite Catholic Church in Greer, SC. Funeral Mass will follow at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 123 West Antrim Drive, Greenville, SC 29607; St. Judes Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148; St. Rafka Maronite Catholic Church, Building Fund, 1215 S. Hwy 14, Greer, SC 29650. The family will be at the home.
