Hazel Mary Dawson Hester

HAZEL D. HESTER GREENVILLE, SC Hazel Dawson Hester, 85, of 17 Dawson Road, wife of the late Hovey Hester went to be with the Lord Thursday March 13, 2008. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late James Lloyd and Mary Maude Lipscomb Dawson. She is survived by her sister, Ruth D. Garrett and husband Claude; nieces Diane Gordon and husband Doug, Betty Winegard, Barbara Ann Campbell, Linda Ray and husband Jimmy, Norma Jean Bruton and husband Maurice, and a nephew, Kenneth Sprouse and wife Martha. She also leaves behind several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Though she had no children of her own, she was like a mother to and loved by all, especially Libby Todd and husband Jack of Florence, SC She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Hester and husband Floyd and a younger brother, James Milton Dawson. After graduating from Parker High School, Hazel worked at Stone Mfg. and became a very talented and creative seamstress, making clothes for her family and was always ready to do any kind of alteration or whatever she could when asked. She continued to work at Pine Hill Mfg. and Varat Enterprises until finally retiring and fully enjoying her green thumb and her love of being outdoors. Mrs. Hester was known for her beautiful yard and garden and took great pleasure propagating new plants and then sharing them along with her fruits and vegetables with everyone. She never met a stranger and enjoyed her neighbors, friends and especially hosting and cooking for family gatherings in her home. Hazel was a lifelong, dedicated member of Reedy River Baptist Church and was very active and influential in the YWA’s and other youth groups. With husband, Hovey, their loving presence in the church was a great example for everyone. They never failed to give God the glory for all of their blessings. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon at Reedy River Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 Saturday afternoon at the church.
