Jayne Ellen Crumb

Jayne Ellen Crumb, 69, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, winning a two-year fight with Glioblastoma. Born in Greenville, SC, on October 25, 1956, she was a daughter of the late Charles Freeman and Thelma Barbrey Freeman Smith. She enjoyed a lengthy career as a Supervisor of Financial Assistance with Prisma Health. To know Jayne was to know a force of nature. She lived life in the fast lane—quite literally—as an avid NASCAR enthusiast. When she wasn't tracking the checkered flag, she could be found pursuing her other great passion: extravagant shopping. With an eye for elegance and a flair for the finer things, she turned shopping into an art form. Her competitive spirit wasn't reserved just for the racetrack. As a loyal, die-hard South Carolina Gamecocks fan, her blood ran garnet and black. Saturdays in the fall were sacred, spent loudly and proudly cheering on her team through every triumph and heartbreak. But above all the high-speed races, the shopping trips, and the stadium cheers, Jayne’s greatest and most profound love was her family. Her family was her true anchor and her proudest achievement. She poured her whole heart into it; fiercely protecting, endlessly supporting, and unconditionally loving her people. The beautiful chaos of family gatherings was her favorite place to be. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Pastor Jeremy Chism (Maria) of Travelers Rest and Stacey Bolt (Jason) of Gray Court; 15 grandchildren, Caleb, Matthew, Bethany, Seth, Hannah-Grace, Silas, Amos, and Elijah Chism, Olivia Bolt, Jacob Bolt; Haleigh Aiken, Tyler Duppstadt, Tera, Courtney, and Lauren Kanning; 9 great-grandchildren, Nayomee, Kolsten, Aden, Avree, Torin, Torianna, Tayvin, Tyrell, and Gabrianna affectionately known as “Gabi”; two brothers, Dennis and Dale Freeman. Her extended family includes Skyler, Gabriel , Emily, Ashely, and Lorie (like grandchildren to her), Melody (who was like a daughter), long-time friends, Linda Smith and Linda Poole, and her beloved work family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jayne was preceded in death by her daughter, Tracy Kanning; her granddaughter, Tori Kanning; and her siblings, Wayne Freeman and Mary Schrader. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Travelers Rest. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
