Nancy Gay Daniel

Nancy Gay Daniel, a vibrant, deeply affectionate, and wonderfully loud soul, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 73, just one day after celebrating her birthday. Born on July 10, 1953, in Miami, Florida, Nancy was the daughter of the late Russell E. Chaffee and Barbara Goddard Lewman. For more than 20 years, Nancy dedicated her life caring for others as a nurse with the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs. Her career was defined by her fierce advocacy for her patients and a nurturing spirit that extended far beyond the walls of any facility. She brought that same immense energy into her personal life, where she was known for her booming laugh, open arms, and a heart so big it could fill any room. You always knew when Nancy entered a space, and you never left without knowing that you were loved. When she was not caring for others, Nancy poured her creativity and curiosity into her many passions. She was an avid cook who loved bringing people together over a good meal, a dedicated reader, and a talented creator who found joy in arts and crafts. She had a sharp mind and a lifelong love of learning and could frequently be found deeply engrossed in a book or listening to one of her favorite podcasts. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, David Lloyd Daniel, Sr.; her son, David Lloyd Daniel Jr., and his wife, Kimberly “Kim”, along with their son, Ian; her daughter, Susan Alexander, and her husband, Keith, along with their daughters, Emma and Abby; her daughter, Katherine “Katie” Daniel-Houser, and her wife, Kristin, along with their children, Karter and Kollier; and her daughter, Juliann Ballew, and her husband, Joshua “Josh,” along with their children, Nicole and Eli. Nancy is also survived by her sisters, Joanne Snyder (Randy) and Carol Church (Mike); as well as her beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Owen Russell Chaffee, and her grandson, Levi Russell Daniel. Nancy leaves behind a legacy of warmth, joyful noise, unforgettable meals, and unconditional love. Her presence will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, former colleagues, and all those fortunate enough to have been embraced by her generous spirit. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary in Travelers Rest.
