Orion Fred Lathan

ORION FRED LATHAN TRAVELERS REST, SC Orion Fred Lathan, 72, of Travelers Rest, passed away Friday, July 24, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Great Falls, SC, he was the son of the late Fred and Myrtle Evans Lathan. He was a long time member of the Cooper Lodge where he served as Secretary for 31 years. He was a member of the Hejaz Shriners were he served in Hospital Activities. He was also a member of the Travelers Rest OES #205 where he served as Worthy Patron and Chaplin. Mr. Lathan retired from J.P. Stevens- Slater Mill after 42 years and worked for W.E. Willis Inc. He was a faithful member of Travelers Rest First Baptist Church where he attended the Sunshine Sunday School Class. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Roberta Drummond Lathan; two daughters: Sally Holmes of Travelers Rest and Mary Holmes (Jerry) of Marietta; two grandchildren: Benny Holmes (Aubrey) of Taylors and Stephanie Holmes of Travelers Rest; grandson–in-law Derrick Weber of Travelers Rest; a sister: Cleo Bollers of Seattle WA; two brothers: Ralph Lathan (Judy) and Ray Lathan all of Greenville; a sister-in-law Bess Lathan of Travelers Rest; a great-grandchild: Tyler Holmes of Taylors. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his in laws C. Harold “Doc” and Grace Morgan Drummond; son-in-law: George Holmes; Granddaughter: Holly Holmes Weber; brother: Bob Lathan. Funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Travelers Rest First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary. Pallbearers and Honorary Escort will be members of Cooper Lodge #282 and the Sunshine Sunday School Class.
