Roland W. Styles

Roland Willard Styles, 91, husband of the late Wanda Foxworth Styles, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at his home. Born in Travelers Rest, SC, Roland was the son of the late Emery E. Styles and Thelma (Shelnut) Styles. He graduated from Travelers Rest High School in 1953, where he was voted “Most Athletic” his Senior year. A gifted athlete in football, baseball and basketball, Roland was a standout player, lettering in all three sports. Roland was inducted into the Travelers Rest High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. Roland entered the US Army and served in Europe as a Military Police Officer. While stationed in Munich, Germany, he played football for the SACOM Commanders a football league for the Armed Forces. After returning home from the service, Roland began his career at BellSouth as a lineman, eventually retiring after 38 years of dedicated service as Manager of Installation and Maintenance. Continuing in his love for sports, Roalnd was a very successful football coach for many years for the Travelers Rest Little League Devildogs, positively influencing many young men’s lives. Golf was another one of Roland’s passions. He had two “hole in ones” in his career, hole #15 at Verdae Greens and hole #8 at Furman University. He had many friends who he enjoyed playing golf with throughout his life. Roland was very instrumental in the founding of the North Greenville YMCA and served as a charter board member. A lifelong member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church, Roland served faithfully as a Deacon and on numerous committees, anchoring his life to faith and service to God. After the passing of his beloved wife, Roland reconnected with Pat (LaFoy) Norris, his high school sweetheart. They shared a special and joyful companionship that brought comfort and happiness to his later years. Roland is survived by his son: Roland Gregory Styles (Laura) of Travelers Rest; daughter: Ronda Styles Stonestreet (Nick) of Alpharetta, GA; and a sister: Jean Rycroft. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Sara Styles (Maxwell Griffin), Samuel Styles, Avery Stonestreet (Henry Hernandez), Camille Stonestreet (Giovanni Tedesco), Nicholas Stonestreet and Alexander Stonestreet. His memory is carried forward by them and his five great-grandchildren: Foxworth, Aurora, Lavender, Elena, and Rolan. In addition to his wife and parents, Roland was predeceased by his sister, Darlene Bagshaw, Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 1:30 pm until 2:50 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in The Howze Mortuary Chapel. Burial will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Coleman Memorial Cemetery in Travelers Rest.
