Romaine H. Alexander

Romaine H. Alexander, 97, entered his heavenly home Saturday, December 12th. Thank you Jesus he is at rest now and celebrating with YOU Lord. Romaine married Blanche Alexander August 26, 1940. His beloved passed away Saturday December 12, 2015, after seventy-five years of marriage. He was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was proud to be a veteran of WWII serving his country with the 70th infantry division, 141st company in the U.S. Army. He was awarded a purple heart, combat infantry badge, M1 rifle expert, Eamet campaign medal with 2 bronze service stars and GO 10 victory medal. Until his death, many times in sharing memories of the war he would cry because it was still so vivid in his mind. Surviving are his son: Aaron Alexander and daughter-in-law Nancy; daughter: Sandra Barnette and son-in-law Gene; grandchildren: Terri Giambalvo (Will), of Greenville, Danny Tapper (Karen) of Jacksonville, FL, Tony Tapper (Miriam) of Mauldin, Nathan Barnette (Jada) of Greer, and Angie Hagan of Travelers Rest; great-grandchildren: Chloe Jones, Shane Tapper, Riley Tapper, Tony Tapper (great grandson), Jacob Barnette, Ava Barnette, Elora Hagan and Krystal Lord; great-great grandson: Koen Lord; siblings: Delores Duncan, Joe Alexander, and Genell Dills; and many nieces and nephews. He was a precision machinist with Hollingsworth for approximately thirty-one years. He had a large woodworking shop at home and enjoyed building furniture and anything he needed. He built the house they lived in for seventy years on State Park Rd. Romaine was the son of the late Rev. M.B. Alexander and Clara Moss Alexander from Salem, SC. When Clara passed away, his dad married the late Edith Crenshaw Alexander. Four brothers (Grady, Hartsell, Derrill and Harry) and a sister (Freida Green) also preceded him in death along with three great grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Memorial Park on Wade Hampton Blvd. Guest are encouraged to follow CDC social distancing guidelines and to wear a mask. There will be no receiving of friends due to the virus. The family would like to thank the staff at Rolling Green Village and Crescent Hospice for their excellent care.
