Tod Alan Waldrop

Tod A. Waldrop, PhD, age 63, of Greer, husband of Rhonda Connor Waldrop, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, surrounded by his family after a six month battle with cancer. He was born in Spartanburg County to Wayne E. Waldrop and Merlean T. Waldrop on February 1, 1962. Tod attended Landrum High School where he played football and graduated in 1980 with honors. He also attended Governor's School at The College of Charleston in the summer of 1979. Following high school, he attended Clemson University. He earned his undergraduate degree in Textile Chemistry. He later returned to Clemson where he earned his doctorate in Textile and Polymer Science. He was a member of MENSA and, according to many, one of the smartest people they knew. He was always proud to be a Clemson Tiger! Tod was employed with Clariant Corporation for 30 years, having retired in 2023 as a Senior Patent Agent. Tod is survived by his wife, of 38 years, Rhonda Connor Waldrop; his sweet and devoted Weimaraner, Ruby Kate; his mother, Merlean Click, of Travelers Rest, SC; his brothers Tim Waldrop (JoAnn) of Campobello, SC, and Terry Waldrop (Amanda) of Landrum, SC; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sandra and Richard Connor, of Greenville, SC; his sister- in-law and brother-in-law Robbie and Mack Giles, of Travelers Rest, SC. Also surviving are aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and many special friends. He was predeceased by his father, Wayne Waldrop, maternal grandparents, Thadeus Tucker and Francis Emory; paternal grandparents, Theron and Clara Waldrop; and a nephew, Hunter Waldrop The family would like to express their thanks to all medical staff for their kindness in caring for Tod during his extended hospital stay. A special thanks, also, to Cynthia Trout for her care of Tod following a spinal cord injury 44 years ago. She was so very intrumental for encouraging Tod and helping him to carry forward, not letting his disability define him. He lived his life following his injury letting nothing stop him from what he wanted to do. He always found a way. Her friendship lasted through the years. There will be a gathering of friends in the near future, date to be determined. The family will be taking some time to grieve the loss of this incredible man and honor him appropriately.
