Betty Ann Allen Snyder, 93, of Greenville, SC and Isle of Palms, SC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2020 in her beloved home on North Parker Road that her husband built for her and their family, that she lived in for over 70 years. She was born in Greenville on August 10, 1927, the daughter of Thelma Shockley Allen and Alexander Thomas (“Sandy”) Allen. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1944 and attended Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC. She married Joe Manning Snyder on October 6, 1946 in Greenville. They were married 61 years when he died in 2007. Betty dedicated her life to God and to her family. Her close relationship with God was a badge of honor she proudly shared with the world. She was beautiful, kind, gentle and gracious. She was an excellent cook and hostess. Her homes and bountiful tables were always open to family, friends and newcomers. Nothing gave her more pleasure than preparing one of her memorable meals and having every seat at every table filled with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. During her final days, when she could not eat or drink, she wanted to make sure the family members who were with her were fed and taken care of. Betty loved her family with all of her heart and soul. She said her greatest blessings called her “MeMe”. She always had a smile to share, a hug to give, and a listening ear. She was a loving, devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She served as the moral compass for her family. She will be greatly missed by her family. Betty was an active member of Reedy River Baptist Church in Greenville, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, working in the children’s nursery and visiting the sick and homebound members of the church. Betty spent her professional career at Honeywell, working full-time while also raising her family and serving her church and community. Betty enjoyed time spent at her “Happy Place” on the Isle of Palms, SC. She loved the beach, riding her bicycle, driving her golf cart around the Island, exercising at the IOP Recreation Center, shopping, dining at local restaurants and spending time with her IOP friends. Betty was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Thelma Viser Woody, and her husband. She is survived by her three children, Joe Manning Snyder, Jr. (Lynn), Kathy Snyder-Garrett, of Greenville, SC, and Douglas Allen Snyder (Julianne Farnsworth) of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren, Lisa Snyder Lindsey (Travis) of Greenville, SC, Jessa Garrett Wiggington (Ross) of Columbia, SC, Elizabeth Farnsworth Snyder and Manning Farnsworth Snyder of Charleston, SC; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Alexander Lindsey and Mia Danielle Lindsey of Greenville, SC, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
