Clara Jane Dyer

March 10, 1941 - November 7, 2021

Clara Jane (Gilbert) Dyer, 80, of Marietta, arrived in her heavenly home on November 7, 2021. Jane was born in Cocke County, Tennessee to the late James Harold Dyer, Sr. and Zora Ellison Dyer on March 10, 1941. At a young age, she moved to Northern Greenville County where she spent the rest of her life. She spent many years working in manufacturing at both JP Stevens in Slater and Gayley Mill in Marietta. She then spent several years working in home health before retirement. To keep busy, she continued working part time at Echo Valley Convenience Store until her health no longer permitted. Jane was content with living a simple life up on her mountain. She enjoyed cooking and feeding anyone that came to visit. Her buttermilk biscuits were the absolute best. Jane was the MacGyver of meal cooking; she could make a delicious meal out of random items. She could often be found working in her yard and enjoying each season’s beauty. Her dream was to create a place to relax and enjoy this beauty with others. She never grew tired of trying to create this haven of rest. Being of the Christian faith, Jane possessed a stronger faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, than most only dream of. She often shared her faith by giving life advice based on this and by reading Bible stories with her many grandchildren. She avidly studied the Bible and was always open to discuss it. You could always find an open Bible on her table and often she had two or three open Bibles along with journals of her notes. Jane was a mother to seven. She is survived by six children: Charles Edward “Eddie” Gilbert, Elizabeth “Jean” McKay, Terry James Gilbert, Robert Dennis Gilbert, “Shannon” Ruth Pritchett, and James Paul “PJ” Gosnell. She was affectionately known as “Big Nanny” to 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Along with her parents, Jane was predeceased by a brother: James H. Dyer Jr.; a sister: Juanita Brown; a son: William “Billy” Gilbert, and daughters-in-law, Lisa Loudermilk Gilbert, and Misty Lee Moore Gilbert. Jane was known for being a strong woman with a big heart. She was loved and will be missed by many. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at The Howze Mortuary from 2:00 p.m. until 2:50 p.m. Funeral service will follow the visitation in the Howze Mortuary Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
