January 25, 1940 - June 21, 2021
Gerald O. Schulz (1940-2021) of Travelers Rest passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 21 after having enjoyed a father’s day dinner with family and friends the previous evening. Services will be held Saturday, June 26 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church (2600 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greenville). Visitation will be at 2:00, Service at 3:00. Gerald was born to Elroy and Margaret Schulz in Merrill, Wisconsin, and was the third of four children. Gerald married Sharon fresh out of high school and it was an unbelievable and bumpy love story that lasted for over 61 years. We will never know or understand how any one man can have enough patience to do that, but he did. Even through her illnesses and surgeries over the past couple years he was determined that she would get better and he would do everything he could to make that happen. When we finally convinced him that he could no longer lift her he installed winches to the ceiling to help, because his winches worked better than those store bought lifts. He was a hard-headed, generous, bossy, wonderful man who could fix anything. He loved helping anyone fix anything, as long as you understood that he knew the best way to fix it. He helped more than a couple young men learn how to work with their hands and to learn a trade. When he was a young child he saw an old alarm clock that had stopped working in the trash and asked his mother if he could have it. He took it apart and put it back together; it worked for many years after. He had a knack for being able to fix things, especially engines and heavy equipment. He also enjoyed fixing things around the Church. He was frequently there fixing anything and everything that needed it and usually without anyone knowing. Gerald and Sharon raised four girls and fostered many children over the years. They have 8 grand kids and 5 great-grandchildren. He has gone to be with our Lord and is enjoying a reunion with his daughter Terie; his parents; two of his siblings; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a whole lot of friends. He frequently said “if you don’t have the time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over”. Gerald lived life right the first time. He has left a large hole in our lives and we look forward to the day we are reunited with him. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. https://www.thehowzemortuary.com/ The service will be Live-Streamed at www.facebook.com/thehowzemortuary, beginning at 2:50 p.m. for anyone who cannot attend the service.
