James Alvin Guest

James Alvin Guest, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at his home comforted and cared for by his sister Jan, his family and his 3 cats, Baby Girl, Max, and Callie. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Alvin Martin Guest and Helen Victoria (Cooper) Guest. He was the oldest of four and proudly served his county in the United State Air Force, having served two tours in Vietnam, and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. After his military service career, he went to work for the United States Post Office where he retired as Postmaster. James was firmly rooted in his Masonic families including Cooper Lodge #282, A.F.M. and other local lodges, Eastern Star, DeMolay International, National Compass Travelers and was a Shrine Clown for many years. He also was a man of many interests which included: camping, hiking, bottle & antique collecting, book swapping, reading, letterboxing, and visiting with friends from coast to coast. James is survived by his daughter: Justina “Tina” Guest Boyd and husband Ron of Gladstone, Oregon; sons: Jon Guest and wife Gaylene of Woodbridge, VA and Thomas Jones and wife Julia of Gillette, WY; sister: Jan Gaunt (Lee) of Travelers Rest, SC; brothers: Jay Guest of Travelers Rest, SC and Jon (Ann) Guest of Greenville, SC; 6 grandchildren: Kimberly Heutzenroeder (Ramon), Victoria Guest, Anna Jones (Jacob), Colby Boyd, Isabel Jones, and Alaina Jones (Aidan); and 2 great-grandchildren: Maddox and Nickolas. Along with his parents, James was also preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Guest. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send a contribution to Shriners Children's Hospital - Greenville, 950 W.
