Pauline Pittman Surett

April 13, 1931 - January 28, 2022

Pauline Pittman Surett, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 28, 2022, with her daughters by her side. Born in Greenville, SC, on April 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Wade and Pearl Pritchett Pittman. She was the fourth of seven children and the last surviving member of her immediate family. At the age of 15, while picking peaches, she met and then married Toy H. Surett. They celebrated 70 years of marriage until his passing in 2017. She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Surett Miller and Tina Surett Pace (Glenn); grandchildren Lindsay Miller Green (Titus), Shannon Pace McCauley (Travis), and Kristen Pace; great-grandchildren Ethan Green and Hollis McCauley; one brother-in-law, James Surett and one sister-in-law Margaret Clyde. While raising her daughters, she was a true homemaker and thoroughly enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, baking and decorating homemade pound cakes. In her later years, much of her time was spent with her granddaughters, going on shopping trips, and she always enjoyed relaxing with family at their vacation home near Lake Russell. Pauline was a faithful member of Clearview Baptist Church, where she enjoyed many senior trips and activities. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also predeceased by her sisters, Louise Surett, Callie Harris, Geraldine Starnes, and Betty Ward; her brothers, Jesse Pittman and Marvin Pittman; and grandson, Creighton Miller. The family is grateful to her many caregivers, especially Darlee, Joanne, LaWanda, Hannah, and her granddaughters, Lindsay and Shannon. A special thank you to North Greenville Fire Department and Amedisys Hospice nurse Gretel and aide Valerie. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View (formerly Grandview Memorial Gardens). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Pauline P. Surett to the North Greenville Fireman’s Club, 923 Tigerville Road, Travelers Rest, SC, 29690.
