Doris A. Branyon

Doris Edna Addis Branyon was born in Greenville County, SC on February 11, 1927 to the late Sloan David and Jessie P. Butler Addis. She was the youngest of seven children, all of whom predeceased her: Paul, William, and Howard Addis, Nell Addis Marchbanks, Mildred Addis Tate, and an infant stillborn sibling, Edna Addis. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Charles William Petty, and her second husband, Richard L. Branyon, DC; her daughter, Lynn Petty Moore, son-in-law, Larry R. Swartz, stepdaughter, Ann Branyon, and granddaughter, Allison Swartz Sweezy. She leaves behind two daughters, Jeanene Petty Swartz, Jessica Karen Petty, and one son, Charles Mark Petty (Priscilla), and son-in-law David Moore, stepdaughter Peggy Branyon McKittrick (Dennis), nine grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 1 step granddaughter and 1 step great-granddaughter. Doris was an excellent seamstress who made beautiful clothes for herself and her three daughters. She was an avid gardener who canned and preserved, and cooked delicious meals from her garden's bounty. She loved music and poetry, and won many prizes in the "Mystery Tune/Name that Tune" contest of a local radio station. She remained active into her early nineties until she developed osteoporosis. We, her children, give thanks to Almighty God for His mercy to our mother in letting her live for almost 99 years. We believe we will one day see her again, for she gave testimony that she trusted in Christ alone for salvation. We commit her into the hands of the faithful Creator, the One Who has redeemed her. May she now be forever comforted and perfectly freed from sin, in Heaven where there shall be no more death and where all tears shall be wiped away..."Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood... to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." — Revelation 1:5b-6 The funeral service will be held at The Howze Mortuary, 6714 State Park Road in Travelers Rest on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. A private family burial will follow.
