Doris Ellen Ragan

Our beautiful mother, Doris Ellen Ragan, was called to her heavenly home and into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024 at the age of 84. She was surrounded by her loving family in the place she loved the most this side of heaven, her home, built by her loving husband of 63 years as the foundation of their life together. Doris was born in Greenville, SC on June 6th, 1940 to the late Georgia Anna Durham and the late Clarence Harlan Chambers. She graduated from Parker High School’s class of 1958. Soon after, she met the love of her life, Duane Ragan and they were married at the Pastor’s home on January 13th, 1960. She wore a stylish navy suit with a white fur hat embellished with a sparkling rhinestone snowflake and a white corsage and Duane, a snapper dresser in his own right, wore a navy suit with a white boutonniere. Thus, began the life of what has grown into a strong family tree with a rich heritage of faith, love, and devotion at its’ deepest roots. Doris was Duane’s faithful and constant companion and she delighted in taking care of him, following him as his biggest fan to all of his music events, and devoting herself to raising her girls to be strong young ladies of faith and strong character. Mom was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was always there for us, offering her support, wisdom, and unconditional love. We cherish our time together with her and will miss her sweet presence, her sense of humor and her loving smile. The memory of Mom’s deep love for us, which she showed in so many ways, is forever etched in our hearts. She was a beautiful soul and we will always cherish her in our hearts and be profoundly grateful for her presence in our lives. Her legacy is her family which continues to grow in the shadow of her nurturing love. Doris is survived by her three loving daughters and three sons-in-laws, Sherry L. Smith (Kevin), Gina R. Bond (Michael), and Amber D. Smith (Jonathan). She is blessed with 7 grandchildren, Arlen (Katelyn), Austin (Bella), Alicia (Drake), Andrew, Devyn (Mackenzie), Dallas and Olivia and well as 3 great grandchildren, Dahlia, Luka, Luna and “Baby Smith” who will be welcomed into the family in September 2024. Also surviving are two sisters, Marjorie Hoffman and Shirley Burdette as well as a brother, David Chambers. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband William Duane Ragan and two brothers, Buddy Chambers and Eddie Chambers. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life". Proverbs 31:10-12 A memorial service celebrating the life of Doris E. Ragan will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16th, 2024, at The Howze Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends and family with a visitation from 2:30 – 3:45 p.m. prior to the service.
