Paula Ruth Fowler Sartain

Paula Ruth Fowler Sartain, 82, of Greenville, wife of the late Jackson Lee Sartain, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her three children. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Paula was the daughter of the late Paul and Virginia Taylor Fowler. She spent her professional years as the secretary at the Temple of Israel, where her kindness, humor, and warm spirit left a lasting mark on everyone she met. A devoted member of Clearview Baptist Church, Paula’s faith and compassion guided her life and inspired those who knew her. Paula and her family spent several years living in Canada, a time filled with cherished memories and lifelong friendships. She often spoke fondly of those years and loved returning to visit the places that held such a special place in her heart. Paula was the very definition of someone who “never met a stranger.” Her quick wit and easy laughter could light up any room, and she was known for being the life of the party—always ready with a clever remark, a heartfelt compliment, or a story that left everyone smiling. She had a gift for making people feel seen and loved. Married to the love of her life, “Jack”, for nearly 60 years, Paula cherished their life together and the family they built. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren, celebrating their milestones, and sharing in their laughter. At home, she was faithfully accompanied by her beloved pet, Izzy, who brought her endless comfort and companionship in recent years. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Paula’s devoted caregivers, her kind and supportive neighbors, and the compassionate team at Amedisys Hospice Care for the unconditional love, care, and support they provided to Paula in recent years. Their presence brought great comfort to her and her family. Paula’s memory will forever be treasured by her children, Jeff Sartain (Susan), Jennifer Hightower (Brian), and Jill Hearn; her grandchildren, Jordan Sartain, Kelsey Hightower Kenyon (Nick), Jackson Hightower, Grayson Hightower, Virginia Taylor Tate (Andy), Parker Hearn, and Reid Hearn; and her great-grandchildren, Leighton, Briggs and Romi Kenyon. A funeral service celebrating Paula’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon, October 29, 2025, in The Howze Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the mortuary. They will also be at the home of Jennifer and Brian Hightower. Memorials may be made to the Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Road, Greenville, SC 29607, reflecting Paula’s lifelong love for animals.
