Roy Henry Redderson

Roy Henry Redderson passed away on November 7th at his home in Greenville SC. He died peacefully with his family by his side. He was born in Paterson, NJ to Charles Henry and Pauline Knaul Redderson on June l, l937. His family later moved to Gulfport, FL where he graduated from Boca Ciega HS. After graduation, he joined the US Navy and received an NROTC Scholarship to Auburn University graduating with an Electrical Engineering Degree in l961. Roy was commissioned into the Civil Engineering Corps and received a Master’s Degree in EE from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. After serving for fifteen years in the Navy, he left with the rank of LCDR and joined ITT Grinnell in Providence, RI where he worked for 10 years. After relocating to Statesboro, GA, Roy taught for 18 years as an Associate Professor of EE Technology at Georgia Southern University. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to NC, where they built a home on Lake Glenville. Roy enjoyed the beauty of the mountains, travel in the US and abroad and working with the mission programs at Cashiers United Methodist Church. He was a beloved husband, wonderful father and always a friend and helper to his neighbors wherever he lived. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Gary Alan Redderson. He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Rayanna Murphy Redderson of the home; a son Michael Ivey Redderson, wife Judy of Indian Trail, NC; a son Jeffery Patrick Redderson of Greenville, SC; a brother Dr. Carl L Redderson, wife Pat of Thonotosassa, FL; a sister Lorraine A. Redderson, Ed.D of Greenwood, SC; a grandson Michael Wesley Redderson, wife Melissa of Marshville, NC; three granddaughters, Michele Erin Redderson of Pittsboro, NC; Elizabeth Ivey Redderson; and Anna Crandall Redderson of Greenville, SC; three great granddaughters, a niece and a nephew. Funeral services will be held at The Howze Mortuary in Travelers Rest, SC at 11:00 AM on November 13th with visitation prior from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Atlanta, GA, the following day at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Assoc., the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, Cashiers United Methodist Church, Cashiers, NC or Hospice Compassus of Duncan, SC.
