Roy Lee Reynolds

Roy Reynolds, son of Leroy and Margaret Reynolds moved to his final home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 19, 2017. Roy is dearly loved and his memory will always remain deep in the hearts of his family. In addition to his parents, he is grieved by his other half and loving wife Debbie; his children Wendi Reynolds Morgan and Randy and Josh Reynolds and Kim; grandchildren Averi Morgan-Best and James, Sam Reynolds and fiancée Nicole, Andrea Turner and Dillon, Reagan, Jordan and Luke Reynolds, a great-grandson Tylan Turner and baby Reynolds on the way.; his sister Rita Carter and Gerald; two brothers, Rick Reynolds and Debbie and Rex Reynolds and Sue. He loved his extended family members and his church family at Mountain Creek Baptist Church and former church home Clearview Baptist. While he was involved in many things as business owner of Hometown Superette and Reynolds Insurance, he loved his family more than anything. He and Debbie looked forward each year to the beach trips, the pool weekend cookouts, and overnight visits from the grandkids. He worked with Wendi and Josh on a daily basis running the store together. He and Debbie were full partners in life, but she is the first to say that he was the rock and the glue. His love and care for all of his family was evident in all he did. Debbie cherishes his words to her when times were hard and he would grin and tell her every day was Valentine’s Day at their house, but he always managed to make it true. Jordan remembers Poppy grilling their supper for them while they were "swimming in the midnight" and Luke remembers him secretly playing football in the house with them and telling them not to tell Nana. Roy made it a point to enjoy life through golfing with his buddies, anything Clemson, church and civic events, where he was usually heavily involved in feeding a crowd. His granddaughter Andrea described him as a great man with a servant's heart. Civic responsibility was his way of giving back to the town he loved. He was elected to Travelers Rest City Council in 1996 and immediately began the efforts to bring the YMCA to Travelers Rest along with other town leaders. Today we have the beautiful George Theisen Y as a result of their efforts. Some other accomplishments during his six years as council was the growth of what is now the Travelers Rest Area Chamber of Commerce and was the first Board Chairman of the GIT YMCA. He served as Mayor from 2001-09. During that time the Council implemented the long range revitalization plan, which included the retail development along Highway 25, downtown infrastructure, and the opening segment of the Swamp Rabbit Trail. In 2008, the City celebrated its Bicentennial. The Mayor's committee planned a yearlong series of events, including a calendar with historical background, and lectures from local historians and well-known locals. The Travelers Rest Historical Society was formed during this time and continues to promote local history today. Roy has long been a Mason at Taylors Lodge and was Master in 1986. He is a Hejaz Shriner and has served on the Board of Greenville Shrine Club for many years, including President in 2013 and 2017. He and Debbie helped reorganize the Travelers Rest Lions Club in 2010 and he was its President then as well. His main outside activities during the past ten or so years have involved fund raising for causes close to his heart which are assisting the visually impaired through the Lions Club and the children at Shriners Hospital. His last acts of giving are cornea donation, which will provide sight for others, and requesting that donations in his memory be given to Shriners Hospital. Roy was a strong loving "giver", as described by many posts on social media and private messages. He will be missed so much by all those who knew him.
